Brownfields Success Stories

Anchor Motor Freight, Inc.

This property is located in a prime developable area on Old Baltimore Pike in Newark. It was sold to Vari Development, a Delaware developer upon its cleanup and now houses a mini-mall named Old Pike Shops. The former tractor storage/overhaul facility was both an eyesore to the new residential communities in the area, as well as a source of contamination. The new Old Pike Shops lease to 9 new enterprises employing nearly 45 persons. The capital investment injected into these new leases was well over $1,600,000 dollars, and the uses are far more compatible with the surrounding community.
