Public Meeting on Gasoline Release at Ogletown Mobil, Chestnut Hill Road, Newark Set for Oct. 2

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Underground Storage Tank Branch, will hold a public meeting Monday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. to present the latest information on a release of up to 15,000 gallons of gasoline that occurred at the Ogletown Mobil gas station.

The meeting will be at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Augusta Drive and Johnson Road, Chestnut Hill Estates, as part of the Chestnut Hill Estates Civic Association's regularly scheduled October meeting.

DNREC discovered the release June 26 after petroleum vapors in a sanitary sewer were traced back to the gas station located on Route 4 (Chestnut Hill Road). At the time of the discovery, residents of Chestnut Hill Estates
living adjacent to the gas station were informed of the release and work began immediately to recover the gasoline. Though recovery of the gasoline continues, the source of the release, a leaking pipe, was replaced in June
and the gasoline tank and lines remain tight.

Information on the current status of the release, ongoing gasoline recovery work, and future work planned will be presented at the meeting by DNREC staff, who will answer questions from area residents.
