White Clay Creek State Park Road Closing

Beginning Friday, Sept. 15, Creek Road between Hopkins Road and Wedgewood Road in White Clay Creek State Park, Wilmington, will be closed to motorists on weekends, though temporarily available to joggers, hikers and bicyclists.

The unpaved stretch of roadway, which was transferred to the Division of Parks and Recreation by DelDOT last year, has been closed to through traffic from sunset to 8 a.m. daily for several weeks and later this fall will be closed for six months to all uses while several construction projects are underway. Long-term use of the road is still to be determined.

The project’s first phase includes reconstruction of three small bridges on Creek Road. Work is expected to be completed next spring. Funding for the $200,000 project will come from DelDOT as part of the transfer agreement.

The Division of Parks and Recreation is also constructing a pedestrian/bicycle bridge at the intersection of Creek Road and Wedgewood Road. It will connect park trails that currently dead-end on either side of White Clay Creek. The $300,000 project, which is being funded through DelDOT's transportation enhancement program, is expected to be completed early next year.
