August 9, 2000 Departure of Lifeguards Leaves 2 State Park Beaches UnguardedThere will be no lifeguards at Gordons Pond State Beach and Fenwick State Beach beginning Aug. 14, the Division of Parks and Recreation has announced. Its that time of year, according to Clyde Shipman, park administrator. Our lifeguards start leaving for college and sport camps and we are forced to keep some swimming areas unguarded. Swimming is not prohibited at those beaches, but its at your own risk Unguarded Beach signs are posted at all dune crossings, fee booths and other beach access areas.
