Sussex Realtor Arrested for Illegal Dumping of Oil

Jack A. Daggett, Rehoboth, Delaware, was arrested on Wednesday by DNREC Enforcement officers for two accounts of willfully discharging a pollutant without a permit from the Department.

Mr. Daggett of 9 Alexander Court was charged with pumping heating fuel oil on two separate occasions from a residence at 24 Tidewater Drive in Henlopen Acres to an outside ground area causing contamination to soil and seepage into the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal. The dates of the alleged offenses were July 17 and July 24.

Mr. Daggett was taken to Justice of the Peace Court #2 in Lewes after being arrested. He was remanded to the Court of Common Pleas in Georgetown for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. on August 10, 2000.

Penalties for these offenses are under Superior Court jurisdiction. Daggett faces possible fines of between $2,500 and $25,000 dollars for each charge.
