Large Menhaden Fish Kill Discovered at Arnell Creek
No Lesions on Fish; Low Dissolved Oxygen Suspected Cause

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control is investigating a large fish kill of approximately 500,000 juvenile menhaden at Arnell Creek reported today. Arnell Creek is located near the mouth of Love Creek in northern Rehoboth Bay.

According to Roy Miller, fisheries program manager with DNREC’s Division of Fish and Wildlife, no lesions were found on the dead menhaden, and low dissolved oxygen is suspected as the likely cause of the fish kill.
