Annual Meeting Set for Delaware State Parks Friends Groups

The Division of Parks and Recreation will host its third annual Friends of Parks Forum at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 21 at the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village in Dover.

Representatives of 10 friends groups will meet with Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Nicholas A. DiPasquale, Division Director Charles A. Salkin and Division staff to discuss volunteer recruitment, fund-raising, programs and projects.

The event will bring together members of the Fort Delaware Society, Friends of White Clay Creek State Park, Friends of Wilmington State Parks, Friends of Bellevue State Park, Delaware Seashore Preservation Foundation, Trap Pond Partners, Friends of Killens Pond State Park, Fox Point Association, Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park and the Delaware Disc Golf Association.

Friends groups are dedicated citizen volunteers who assist state park staff in the preservation, development, maintenance and programming of the state parks for the enjoyment of visitors, according to Glen Stubbolo, volunteer administrator.

"Always an invaluable asset, Friends groups will play a vital role in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the state park system throughout 2001, which was recently designated as 'The Year of Delaware State Parks' by Governor Minner," Stubbolo said.
