March 9, 2001 For further information, contact James Short at 302-739-3689 Recycling Public Advisory Council to Meet March 21, 2001The second meeting of the Recycling Public Advisory Council will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, in the Large Conference Room of the Delaware Development Office, 99 Kings Highway, Dover. The agenda will include the status of selecting a chairperson, status of vacant council seats, review and finalization of recycling grant criteria, identification of target areas to solicit grant applications, overview of Environmental Protection Agency Guide for Measuring Recycling, and a review of a draft grant contract. The Recycling Public Advisory Council was created by Executive Order No. 82 September 2000 and charged with advising DNREC and the Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) on all aspects of recycling, including development of grant criteria and selection of applications; a methodology for measuring recycling rates; and possible outreach activities designed to achieve greater recycling rates. Members of the council are: Pasquale Canzano, DSWA; Richard Cecil, Sussex County; Denise Ferguson-Southard, DNREC; Donald Mulrine, municipal representative; Robert Propes, Delaware Economic Development Office; Patricia Todd, League of Women Voters; and Paul Wilkinson, Delaware Environmental Alliance for Senior Involvement (DelEASI). Vacancies exist on the council for a recycling industry representative and a waste hauling industry representative. The council will report to the Governor and the General Assembly by Dec. 1 each year on the status of recycling activities in Delaware. The report will include the status of attaining the 30 percent recycling goal and assessment of DNREC and DSWA activities toward achieving that goal, an accounting of the matching grants program and future funding recommendations. -30- |
