DNREC Winners at Sussex County Science Fair Focus on the EnvironmentThis week you did not have to look much further than Sussex County to see that Delaware students are devoting time to help solve some of the serious problems facing the environment today. Some of the projects at this year's fair dealt with topics such as air, water and light pollution (wasted, improperly aimed and unshielded illumination that can cause glare and unwelcome light across private property, and obscure visibility of the stars at night). To encourage and recognize these projects, the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control sponsors additional Savings Bond Awards for the participants, a $100 bond for each 1st place student winner; and a $50 bond for each runner up. The DNREC awards are presented to the students whose science projects recognize the importance of environmental ecology through interesting and innovative activities. Each year the projects are judged and the winners selected by DNREC personnel. The following students were honored by DNREC divisions with Savings Bonds:
The Sussex Science Fair, held this year at the University of Delaware's Virdin Center in Lewes, is comprised of exhibitions of scientific projects prepared and presented by students under the guidance of their teachers and with the help of other persons interested in the science topics being explored. -30- |
