Black Sea Bass Limit Lowered

Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Nicholas A. DiPasquale signed an emergency order yesterday, Feb. 8, 2001, that lowers the first quarter trip limit from 9000 pounds to 4500 pounds for commercial fishermen landing black sea bass in Delaware.

By issuing the order, Delaware is complying with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission emergency rule to lower the quarterly trip limit whenever 75 percent of the quarter's quota is landed. As of Jan. 20, 2001, 458,822 pounds of black sea bass had been landed coast wide since Jan. 1, 2001.

Projections were that 75 percent of the first quarter's quota would be landed on Feb. 6, 2001. Therefore, states are required to lower their trip limits to 4500 pounds in order to allow the fishery to remain open through March or the end of the first quarter.
