Division of Fish and Wildlife Seeking Landowners for Wildlife Habitat Enhancement Program

Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control's Division of Fish and Wildlife is seeking qualified landowners to participate in its Wildlife Habitat Enhancement Program.

The program's objective is to increase wildlife habitat by paying landowners to retire a portion of their agricultural land and convert it to habitat for wildlife. Acreage enrolled in the program must be taken out of production and maintained according to specified management plans for a period of five years.

Landowners will be compensated at the rate of $70 per acre for participating in the program. Designated acres can be established in permanent cover by planting warm season grasses and/or allowing the site to revert naturally.

Each landowner can enroll a maximum of five acres into the program unless additional funding is available at the end of the sign-up period for more acreage. The entire lease payment for the 5-year period will be paid up front as an added incentive for participation in the program.

For additional information about the program, contact Greg Moore, Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife, 302-739-5297.
