New Project Manager Named for DNREC's Site Investigation and Remediation Branch

Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control's Division of Air and Waste Management Director Denise Ferguson-Southard announces the appointment of Christina Wirtz as the new Program Manager II of the Site Investigation and Restoration Branch (SIRB). Her appointment was effective Nov. 1, 2000.

Wirtz is a registered Professional Geologist in Delaware and Pennsylvania, and is certified for Subsurface Evaluation in New Jersey. She graduated with a bachelor of arts from Rice University in 1979, and completed graduate work in exploration geology at Southern Methodist University, as well as hydrogeology at Drexel University in 1988.

She has more than 20 years of experience involving petroleum exploration, and Underground Storage Tank (UST), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Superfund programs. Working in the private sector, she has gained vast experience with a variety of consulting firms including Lexicon Environmental Associates, Inc., where she served as a senior manager on projects ranging from environmental compliance/assessments and UST investigations to Superfund sites located in Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Her most recent position was as a project manager with Keating Environmental Management, Inc., where she completed numerous environmental projects, including Brownfields sites in Pennsylvania.

Wirtz lives in the Talleyville area of Wilmington, Del. with her husband, Michael and her 10-year old son, Jason.

Director Ferguson-Southard commented that, "Christina has significant professional and managerial experience and we are fortunate to have her join us at DNREC."
