Join the park naturalist on this hike around Killens Pond State Park in search of these fascinating predators. Learn the calls of the three species of owls that nest in the park and about the special adaptations that make owls amazing nocturnal hunters. Participants will warm up around a campfire afterwards, so don't let the frigid temperatures keep you from this unique experience! Pre-register at the park office or by calling 302 284-4526 by the day before the program. Meet at the campground amphitheater. Nature Under Ice Hike around Killens Pond State Park and discover how nature survives a long, cold winter. From how insects survive the cold to tracking animals through the snow, participants will learn all about nature in winter. Back at the nature center, learn how to make snow cream (with or without snow on the ground) and design your own paper snowflake. Open to ages 5 and older. Sign up at the park office or call 302- 284-4526 to register by the day before the program. Meet at the nature center. $3 per person. Buds and Bark Learn to identify trees using their buds and bark. Discover how the trees of Killens Pond State Park adapt to the cold winter weather, how to identify the many species of pine trees in the park, and how bark rubbings make interesting records for nature journaling.
