Geographic Information System Documents
All of the data files and Geographic Information System coverages that were used to analyze the data and generate the maps for the Assessment Report are provided on this Compact Disc. Three different methods are available for accessing this information:
For
Users without GIS experience and without ESRI's ArcView software, ESRI's free
ArcExplorer application is provided along with its Users Manual in Adobe Acrobat
format. Click on the
icon to install the application, click on the
icon to open the ArcExplorer Manual. Once ArcExplorer is installed the
maps can be opened by clicking on the
or by browsing to the files from within ArcExplorer.

For Users with ArcView GIS experience and/or software, a complete ArcView project containing all of the Views and Layouts is also provided. This file must be accessed by browsing to it from within ArcView. Trying to open the project by double-clicking on the inland bays.apr file will start ArcView, but will not be able to find the project. All of the shapefiles used in the maps are included in subject-specific subdirectories.
For more experienced ArcView GIS users, the View and Layout Documents needed for each of the maps are provided as individual ArcView Object Data Base (ODB) files. To simplify the use of these files, a custom ArcView extension (ODB_Docs.avx) is also included that enables the import, export and cloning of these ODB files in any ArcView Project. For ease of use, an empty project (ODB.apr) is included that has this extension already loaded with a read me file explaining how to use the tools. For users that want to use this extension in other ArcView Projects, the ODB_Docs.avx file must be copied into their ArcView Extensions directory (default location for ArcView 3.0 is ESRI\AV_GIS30\ARCVIEW\EXT32).
